We have reporters who use the font ID numbers to change fonts for CG events, so it would be nice if they were organized in a more systematic way. I get if they have ID numbers, that this makes it difficult, but the scenes have changeable ID numbers. I would be happy enough if I could rearrange their order. Ooh, that's a good idea about the fonts being organized the same way as the materials. Their new augmented reality stuff is actually using Unity under the hood.) Also, a CG is just a 3D engine with a CG interface on it. Might be a new feature in version 8 though. (To your other points, I think you can mix MOS and non-MOS in your sequencer. Saving scenes as individual files would also be nice.Īt the end of the day though, that's the architecture that Ross decided to go with, so adapt your workflow or choose a different product. That would help keep track of what fonts are tied into which categories of graphics. It would be nice if fonts could be organized in the same way that materials are. I agree with some of the weaknesses that you point out though. Don't forget that you also have Visual Logic which lets you connect boxes with arrows for simpler stuff. If you have any programming/scripting knowledge you should have no problems with VBScript. It's a lot more powerful than keystroke macros, and you can make things as simple or as complicated as you like. You really don't have to know much in the way of VBScript to get things done, as you're pretty much just filling out event methods. NET API which is accessible from within Xpression as VBScript. It's like they took a 3D engine and slapped a CG interface on it

Ross buys cheap software to keep costs down, and it shows. With automation with Xpression, we don't have the project open, it's all from the project server, so we go into Inception to add it and that is nowhere near as quick as hammering in a number on the keypad. With the Infinit and Deko we used automation, but I could still hammer in four digit page numbers and quickly call up a template. I offered to publish a separate project with just the temporary scenes but no, that will confuse the Xpression op. We modify our projects in-house and of course the producers are regularly adding and removing stuff. Xpression has me terrified that I am going to one of these days upload an older version and something will go missing. dko file and leave everything else untouched. When you change one template page, you must republish the entire project to the project server, with Deko you could modify one. In one of the earlier versions, when you changed a font size, it changed it everywhere else in the project without asking 😂 It makes it awkward to build a page on the fly. With Xpression, every font size must be a preset. Also, the fact that all font instances must have a global font size/face, unlike Chyron Infinit and Deko which let you create unique sizes of fonts for just one instance on one page, without it having to be a font preset. Xpression is getting better at how it handles fonts but at first it was a nightmare, it would create new duplicate fonts when you imported a page WITH THE SAME FONTS and you had to do a massive fiddly cleanup so that your fonts didn't multiply like rabbits. I have to learn VBScript for scripting? Deko and Infinit had a way to record keystroke macros, and you could edit them in a text editor. I don't like it as much as Deko or the Infinit.
